To take a picture of 'La Place' this empty, you have to be the last person out of the last restaurant open. With over two-hundred days of festivals each year, including 'Carnaval', the world's longest winter festival, the people of Limoux are always ready to meet, greet, eat and celebrate.
This is 'café society', Limoux style. The vibrant Place de la République is the everyday gathering place, with a variety of restaurants, bars and cafés. Many of the Limoux festivals including Music, Dance and Wine- Tasting events, plus Carnaval are held here
The four entrances to La Place lead out to streets lined with a large variety of stores (including 'patisseries'... you know, the ones you can't walk past without stopping for at least a few seconds)
The entrance shown above leads to the River Aude and the 'Pont Neuf' which connects the two oldest quarters of Limoux.
Walk for two minutes from Les Lauriers and enjoy free tastings of Blanquette and Many other wines at Sieur dArques, Winery, one of the largest co-operatives in the region.
Another of our favourites is Limoux producer Antech. Their 'Elegance Brut' is a very good bubbly.
Seeing Europe from Limoux
Another big plus for Limoux is its easy and inexpensive access to the rest of Europe. Sitting almost at the geographic centre of Western Europe, and with three airports that service low-cost airlines within a 90minute drive, Limoux is a great place from which to enjoy all that modern and ancient Europe has to offer.
